2012 Symposium and Winter Meeting


Call for Papers

The Symposium planning committee invites people to submit abstracts/descriptions for papers to be presented at the Canal Society of New York State’s Annual Winter Symposium at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York on Saturday March 10, 2012. We welcome any topic that is directly or indirectly related to historic or operating New York State Canals, canals and inland waterways worldwide, and the communities through which they run. Categories for topics include, but are not limited to:

  • History
  • Engineering and Shipping
  • Economic Development and Revitalization
  • Folklore and Tales
  • Boats and Vessels
  • Recreation and Tourism
  • Canal systems of other states, countries
  • Canal Curiosities (Aqueducts, Boatlifts, other features)

Presentations shall last no more than 45 minutes, including questions. The conference room is fully equipped with state-of–the-art computers, video, and digital projection. Authors should submit their paper’s title, an abstract/description of no more than 500 words, and the principal author’s name, title, affiliation plus a brief biography via email to the Winter Symposium Planning Committee
